Even more One Piece

If you check out the Costumes page, you’ll notice a new one listed! I’m still focused on my Tashigi cosplay, but I started thinking about doing another One Piece cosplay that is more suitable to the hot summer weather, especially since I’ll be attending summer conventions. I decided on Robin! Her Dressrosa one is very simple, but I also like the idea of making a dress that I can use out of cosplay as well.

But first! I need to work on my Tashigi cosplay. I did another mock-up but without all the stripes and details. I really wanted to test the fit and collar of my new pattern.

I finally got to something I’m happy with, so I’m going to start on the real fabric now. Exciting! I bought twill for the jacket and broadcloth for the lining. I also ordered some faux fur online and am waiting on that.

I’m spending this weekend doing as much as I can without the faux fur part. Hope to update again soon with progress!

Tashigi – mock up phase

Ah! I totally meant to post last month, but I procrastinated. I have to admit I haven’t worked on my Tashigi cosplay as much as I wanted to in January and February and am trying to make it up in March. My goal is to work on it a bit each day and finish the jacket this month!

So… first update! The wig is styled. I used the hot water method to straighten it, and then I trimmed it and styled the bangs.

Next update! I have one mock-up done of her jacket. I started with Simplicity 2150 using the “D” version. I made it with muslin with no alterations, and it looked like this:

Which is just a very simple jacket, but that’s what I was going for. Since there was a sale on Simplicity patterns, I got it for $1, so yeah, totally worth it. From here, I did a bit of altering on the pattern and figured out where I wanted the stripes, faux fur, and pockets.

New year, new cosplays

Happy new year everyone! I know it’s been a few months since my last post, and I totally plan on adding more photos and entries about my Phi costume, but for now, I wanted to give an update on my 2016 plans.

I’ve updated my costumes page. I finally removed Silica from the list, which I never made any real progress on. Unfortunately, as I lost interest in Sword Art Online, I also lost motivation to do the cosplay.

This year, I decided to focus on an Anime I love and continue to follow, which is One Piece! Last year, I started having interest in cosplaying Tashigi. At first, it was because of her Punk Hazard outfit (timeskip), and now I want to do her Alabasta version (pre-timeskip) too. I’m doing the Alabasta one first.

I don’t have any fabric for it yet, but I do have the wig and glasses.

Sorry for the crappy phone photo! I plan on taking better photos after I style the wig. That’s how it is out of the bag.

The wig is the Katinka from Arda Wigs in their “raven” color. I love that it has both blue and black fibers! I feel like that’s perfect for Tashigi. Right now, I’m straightening it with the hot water method, and then I’ll cut and style it afterwards.

The glasses are frames by Steve Madden. I was originally looking for cheap frames that I could put non-prescription lenses in, then I saw this one and fell in love with the color. I ended up ordering them with my prescription so that I could use them for both cosplay and every day use.

Anyway, that’s it for now! After I style the wig, I’ll start drafting the pattern for Tashigi’s jacket. I also have another Phi entry planned once I get around to taking photos.
