Tashigi’s jacket, progress 2

So a day after my last entry… the faux fur came in! I guess the tracking updated a bit slow on it. While I was excited to have it, it was kind of a pain to work with. It kept shedding, ughhh.

Anyway, the first thing I did was sew the faux fur to the bottom of each piece, and then I sewed the three pieces together by the sides. It might look like the faux fur is one long piece, but it isn’t. I cut it into pieces to fit the 3 jacket pieces.

The lining is very similar. The red is broadcloth, and the white is the same twill I used on the outer jacket parts. You can see how the white parts match up to the outer jacket part. The vertical line is the same size, and the bottom part is the same measurement as the faux fur. I sewed the three pieces together by the sides as well.

Tashigi’s Jacket, progress 1

I’m making good progress on Tashigi’s jacket! I’ve finished the front and back pieces without the faux fur. I’m still waiting on that fabric order to come in and am a bit worried since the tracking hasn’t moved, but… we’ll see. Hopefully I get it soon!

I started by making the button “holes” – quotations because I didn’t actually cut button holes. Since I don’t plan on buttoning up this jacket, I decided not to bother with them. I tried a few different things out, and the only thing that seemed to work well was making a loop with 1/4 inch bias tape. I used a bit of fabric glue to get them in place before sewing them down.

Even more One Piece

If you check out the Costumes page, you’ll notice a new one listed! I’m still focused on my Tashigi cosplay, but I started thinking about doing another One Piece cosplay that is more suitable to the hot summer weather, especially since I’ll be attending summer conventions. I decided on Robin! Her Dressrosa one is very simple, but I also like the idea of making a dress that I can use out of cosplay as well.

But first! I need to work on my Tashigi cosplay. I did another mock-up but without all the stripes and details. I really wanted to test the fit and collar of my new pattern.

I finally got to something I’m happy with, so I’m going to start on the real fabric now. Exciting! I bought twill for the jacket and broadcloth for the lining. I also ordered some faux fur online and am waiting on that.

I’m spending this weekend doing as much as I can without the faux fur part. Hope to update again soon with progress!
