Haku revisited

I think I mentioned before that I wanted to re-do some things on my Haku costume. Well, that’s what I’ve been doing recently!

I really just wanted to make adjustments to the white top. I didn’t make changes to the undershirt or pants, other than using my serger on the inside. Here is what I posted on Instagram when I first started. You can see that I was taking apart the collar and sleeves.

Changes I made:

  • Some things I just took apart to sew again with better stitches.
  • Adjusted the shape of the sleeves and sewed them back on a little differently.
  • I felt the white top was too wide, so I took it in by an inch on each side.
  • Improved the way the collar was sewn on and also added an extra section of velcro.

Haku, Spirited Away

A blast to the past and a new wig

I wrote an entry over at my other blog about how I decide on which cosplays to make. At the end of it, I showed photos of my very first costume. I wanted to show that I made it without sewing experience, still had a fun time with it, and improved from there. After all, we all have to start somewhere right?

Anyway, the sewing mistakes I made were pretty bad, and it’s funny to look back on them :)

In more recent cosplay news, I bought a new wig during Arda Wigs’ sale! This is their “Chibi” in “Sandy Brown”. I thought it’d be a good base wig for Silica (Sword Art Online) :)

2014 Plans?

New year, new cosplays! Sort of… I haven’t really decided on the costumes I want to make this year XD;; There are a couple things I want to do though…

1. Make a Portal gun and better long fall blades for my Chell cosplay
Though I originally was going for her Portal 2 look, I’ve realized that I like wearing it as her Portal 1 instead. It’s mainly because it would show more details on the jumpsuit, and it’s also pretty comfy XD So, I want to re-do the long fall blades, and of course, add a Portal gun.

2. FINALLY finish our Spirited Away costumes
Seriously. These have been on the back burner for too long. Though my Haku costume is done, I’d like to re-do some things on it. I’m much better at sewing than I was a few years ago, so there are things I can improve. Then I need to finish Chihiro’s outfit and figure out something for No Face.

3. New things maybe?
I want to start on something totally new too, but I’m not sure what yet. Right now I’m eyeing Silica’s outfit from Sword Art Online. I have a friend who would be interested in cosplaying Liz from the same series, so that could be fun.

Anyway, I’ve updated my sidebar with cons I’m thinking about going too. Nothing is really set in stone yet though.
